Tulum Skincare Routine
Today, I’m going to be writing a bit about my travel skincare routine. I’m currently in Tulum, Mexico, where it is incredibly humid. I have acne-prone, combination skin so it’s important to stick to a routine with specific products for me. Also, traveling so much wrecks your skin! So I have to take extra care with my skin before and after flights so I’m not thrown out of balance.
Day-Time Routine
First, I use the special cleansing gel by dermalogica. I normally really like to use the Youth to the People Green-Based cleanser but it comes in a glass bottle and I wasn't comfortable traveling with it so this has been my go-to for travel. Before I wash my face, I like to pull my hair from my face with a “glam band”. I hate washing my face and my hair gets wet, so I just pull my bangs back.
I've been really careful to use this U.F.O. Ultra-Clarifying Acne Treatment Face Oil by Sunday Riley. It has 1.5 salicylic acid which is great for just getting into the pores and removing all that dead skin cell but it's also an oil so i feel like it's not too harsh on my skin. It actually leaves it feeling pretty moisturized.
Next, I go with Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment, also by Sunday Riley. This really helps to exfoliate my skin. Also, I prefer a chemical exfoliant to a physical one because I’m worried about the physical particles damaging my skin. I have been loving this Rovectin Clean Lotus Water Cream I got. I love it for humid climates because it’s not too dense. So, I put this on and my secret for here in Tulum is that I add a few of these Tan-Luxe Illuminating Self-Tan Drops. After much chagrin, I have accepted that I’ll be pale forever, but I love these in Tulum because they give me a bit of a sun-kissed glow. Next up, I use the Elizabeth Arden Eight-Hour Lip Mask because my lips are constantly chapped. I’m always trying to make sure they stay moisturized and I just really like this one. I just love the Elizabeth Arden Eight-Hour cream line.
Lastly but most importantly, sunscreen! Sunscreen is so so so so important. I like to use Soft Airy UV Essence SPF 50 PA by Klairs. I've had the rule that you're supposed to cover two fingers with sunscreen and so that's kind of the rule I go by. Maybe it's too much, maybe it's too little, but I find this one doesn't leave too bad of a white cast on my skin. To combat any white cast, I use the D-Bronzi Anti-Pollution Bronzing Drops by Drunk Elephant and I think it just gives it like the tiniest little bit of color. So especially if I’m not gonna wear makeup that day, I feel like it gives me a good just a bit of a bronzy glow to make it look like I actually spent some time at the beach. I really do think the number one step in protecting your skin (and making it look beautiful for longer) is sunscreen and avoiding sun because sun damage is the number one cause of aging on your skin.
Night-Time Routine
Starting off, I use the Living Cleansing Balm by Then I Met You during my nighttime routine. This one just makes your skin feel so soft, I just love the scent. After, I go back in with the Dermalogica cleanser, and instead of the Lactic Acid treatments, I use the Sunday Riley High-Dose Retinoid 8 Plus serum just to kind of reverse any sun damage. The next one I go in with are these Vitamin C Ceramide Capsules Radiance Renewal Serum by Elizabeth Arden. Normally, I do these at night to help reverse any sun damage I’ve gotten during the day because Vitamin C has been clinically proven to help reduce sun damage.
Lastly, I finish up with the Elizabeth Arden 8 hour Cream Skin protectant as well as the lip balm just to really, really improve that moisture barrier. If I do end up having some breakouts, I will add the Saturn Sulfur Spot Treatment mask, also by Sunday Riley to those points just to try and dry out and bring out any of the grossness in there.
So that’s my skincare routine while traveling, I hope you enjoyed it!
